Sport Premium

St Matthew’s Primary School is devoted to promoting healthy lifestyles, physical activity and sporting opportunities for all young people.

We welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource to develop high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our young people.

What does the Sport Premium mean for St Matthew’s Primary School?

“The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, in the 2016 to 2017 academic year, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.”

Funding for schools is calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11) as at the annual census in January.  Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.
