This half term, our Year 5 Active Citizens have been working with Brown Bookshop once again on High Town Road on a very special creative project.
With support from local artist Abi Spendlove, and funding from Luton Arts Evolution Fund, the children explored the hidden chalk stream that runs beneath Luton. They discovered how nature can inspire art and learned new techniques for working with chalk.
After taking part in their own workshop, the Year 5 pupils did something amazing—they became teachers! They led creative sessions for our Year 3 classes, helping younger children to produce their own beautiful, nature-inspired artwork.
All of the finished pieces were displayed at Brown Books, where a whole wall was transformed into a colourful and inspiring exhibition.
On Friday 1st May, every Year 3 child visited the shop to see their artwork on display — many for the very first time. The children loved the experience, describing the shop as “fancy” and “interesting,” and saying the artwork “inspires you” and “makes you want to draw and read more.”
The exhibition is open until Wednesday 6th May, so do pop in if you get the chance! After that, the artwork will be turned into an animation by another local artist.
We are so proud of our Year 5 Active Citizens for leading this project, and of our Year 3 children for their fantastic creativity. What a wonderful example of teamwork, leadership and inspiration!
