With the end of the school year now within touching distance, we’re sure that everyone is looking forward to the summer holiday. Nevertheless, there are still things planned for the last couple of weeks, so here we outline key dates for your diary.
TUESDAY 8 JULY
Stay and Play
We continue to welcome our new starters who will be joining us in our Reception classes full-time from September. Two more Stay And Play sessions will take place at 9.30am and 4.00pm. If you came to the morning session last week, then this week you come to the afternoon session. If you came to the afternoon session last week, then this week you come to the morning session. Check the laminated card in your New Starters pack. Remember that anyone who attended last week’s session and attends this week’s session will receive a free Book Bag and PE bag!
WEDNESDAY 9 JULY
Year 6 Water Fun
A reward for good conduct over the last few weeks – an event where the Year 6 pupils get to have fun with water outside. There will be water shooters, buckets and jugs. This is an event our Year 6 pupils are really looking forward to, as are the staff! The weather is looking dry and sunny for Wednesday morning.
THURSDAY 10 JULY
Transition
The children will spend most of the morning working in their new classes with their new teacher. The morning often involves creative activities to provide content for classroom displays ready for September.
Parent Walkabout
Parents can come to collect their children from 2.30pm. The children will then show parents where their new classroom is and it will provide an opportunity for parents to say a brief “Hello” to their child’s new class teacher.
FRIDAY 11 JULY
Celebration Assemblies
These will be our final Celebration Assemblies of the year as there won’t be any on the last Friday of term next week.
Reports Published
You will receive your child’s annual pupil progress report.
MONDAY 14 JULY
Year 6 Yearbook Assembly
Our Year 6 pupils will all receive their copy of this year’s Yearbook. It contains pages where children can collect their friends’ (and their teachers’) signatures which they can do across the last few days before bringing home the Yearbook as a lasting memory of their time at St Matthew’s
WEDNESDAY 16 JULY
Year 6 Leavers' Prom
From 5–7pm, it’s glam time! The hall becomes Prom HQ with mocktails, games, ice cream, and enough sparkle to rival a Strictly final.
Dress code: Fabulous.
Energy: Off the charts.
THURSDAY 17 JULY
Year 6 Leavers' Graduation
Location: University of Bedfordshire, Luton.
It’s caps, gowns, proud parents, and tissues at the ready. Two sessions depending on your child’s class—check the ticket info and arrive fashionably 10 minutes early (but not too early—we’re not camping).
FRIDAY 18 JULY
Non-Uniform Day
Put your school clothes in the wash and come to school in non-uniform. A donation of £1 to spend on playground activities would be appreciated. Give your donation to your class teacher at the start of the day.
Year 6 & Staff Football Match
11th Annual Staff / Year 6 Match: Expect drama, glory, outrageous celebrations, and refereeing that’s… open to interpretation.
With the rest of the school squeezed around the edge of the football pitch, space restrictions mean that we are unable to invite parents to this event.
Early Pick-Up
As usual on the last day of term, we are inviting parents to collect their children from 2.00pm. Children who cannot be collected early will be supervised until the normal pick-up time. Year 5 and Year 6 children who are normally “Walkers” can leave at 2pm as long as we have their parents agreement – watch out for a ParentMail form on Monday 14 July.
MONDAY 21 / TUESDAY 22 JULY
Staff Training Days
How will you be spending the first two days of your summer holiday? Sleeping late and nice long lie-ins? A day out with your family? Jetting off to a sunny beach somewhere? Maybe joining a holiday activity programme?
Think about the teachers, they have two training days before their holiday begins on Wednesday 23 July.
