The fesitve season begins this week and we have three weeks in school until the Christmas holiday begins.
Staff worked hard after school on Friday to decorate the school with fairy lights, Christmas trees and other Yuletide trimmings. Will there be an Elf on a Shelf … keep your eyes peeled!
Our school choir will get things going in earnest on Tuesday when they take part in the High Town Christmas Lights Switch-On between 4.00 and 6.00pm. They will be performing in the Burr Street Square on High Town Road opposite the Lagoa Cafe.
Then on Friday, a selection of Year 6 choir members will be taking part in the Lord Lieutenant’s Christmas Carol Service in St Mary’s Parish Church.
Then for the next few days, between 9th and 17th December, each year group will be organising a Christmas Crafts session to which parents are warmly invited to attend and work alongside their children. Details of times and dates can be found on the flyer displayed below.
Wednesday 18th December is our Christmas Dinner Day. Our catering staff have put together a delicious menu which we know the children are going to enjoy. Please remember to respond to the ParentMail form by Monday 9th December so that our caterers will know how many children are going to be choosing which dish from the Christmas menu.
On Thursday 19th December, we would like everyone to dress up in the brightest coloured clothes possible for our annual Festive Fashions day. Christmas jumpers, Christmassy colours (red, green, gold, silver – the choice is endless really.) All we ask is that you leave the football tops at home this time – it’s not a standard non-uniform day, more a colourful celebration of the time of year.
During the day on Thursday 19th December, we will have our Festive Singing events. Each year group will be performing their own Christmas song. Of course, it would not be Festive Singing at St Matthew’s without the traditional Twelve Days of Christmas – not just a song but a mammoth physical workout too!!
Friday will see our Christmas activities coming to an end; the decorations will come down and everyone will have earned the two-week break. As usual, children can be collected from 2.00pm. Any children unable to be collected early will be fully supervised until the normal pick-up time of 3.25pm. Children in Years 5 and 6 who wish to be early ‘walkers” at 2.00pm on the last day will need permission from their parents. Watch out for the ParentMail form that will be sent on Monday 16 December.

I used to be a student at St Matthews last year and I miss it dearly especially the amazing supportive teachers. I used to be a student in Wolf class [the BEST Yr 6 class] It’s crazy how time flies. Hope the teachers who used to teach me are still here! :]
