RELISH SCHOOL LUNCHES

SCHOOL LUNCHES

Welcome

Our school meals caterers are RELISH SCHOOL FOOD. Their aim is to deliver the best in-house catering service solution in the UK.

Quality

All dishes are made with quality, fresh ingredients and are cooked from scratch wherever possible. Vegetables are freshly prepared and fruit salads and salad bars are created using a large variety of fresh and colourful fruit and salad items. The meat used is Red Tractor assured, the fish carries the Marine Stewardship approval and the eggs are free-range. All meat and fish dishes are halal.

Sustainability

100% of our food packaging is recyclable and the use of locally sourced produce on our menus continues to increase – meaning the food mileage is dropping.

Get Involved

Would you like to be a food critic? A food critic will appear as a guest on TV programmes such as Masterchef and The Great British Menu or be a regular judge on programmes like The Great British Bake Off. Some food critics get paid by newspapers or magazines to eat at restaurants and then write about the dishes they’ve tried.

Well, now it’s your chance! If you have school dinners, we would like you tell us about your favourite dish that Relish School Food serves at St Matthew’s. Use the form below to send us your opinion about our school meals.

We will publish the best reviews here on the School Meals webpage.

Free school meals

The Free School Meals scheme is a fantastic initiative by the Government to ensure that all children are able to eat a delicious, nutritious and filling meal each and every day.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are all entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals and for pupils in Year 3 and upwards, there is a simple application form if you receive certain benefits. We can provide support through the application process so feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Research by the Children’s Food Trust showed that school meals are consistently more nutritious than packed lunches, giving the children who eat them a better foundation for good health.

School meal prices

School meals cost £2.60 per day (£13.00 per week). Payment is made through the ParentMail app. Contact the school office on 01582 723970 or email admin.stmatthews@smps.uk if you do not already have a ParentMail account.

School meal prices update

After careful deliberation the cost of school meals will increase starting 13th April 2026 from £2.60 to £2.90 per day.

The adjustment will not affect those who are entitled to free school meals through the Universal Free Infant School Meals programme in Reception, Year 1 and 2.

It will also not affect children in Years 3-6 who have access to benefit related free school meals.

If you are unsure about your eligibility for this please speak to the School Office
(01582 723970) who will be happy to assist you. Alternatively, if you would prefer,
you can email: admin.stmatthews@smps.uk.

Incidentally, if your family would be entitled to free school meal but you have
chosen not to make an application, there are many benefits to making an
application and we would encourage you to do so, as this supports the school with funding.

Thank you for your continuing support.
