During 2025 we established a pupil charity committee comprising children from each of the Key Stage 2 classes.
We currently have five children from Year 4 classes: Charlize, Jakub, Maria, Sophia, Tijana / four children from Year 5: Arlin, Dalia, Joshua, Tasmim / and three children from Year 6: Arge, Dominic and Ismael.
This page is designed to be an overview of the work that our Charity Commmittee has undertaken so far and, as you can see below, as we reach the mid-point of the school year, they have had some phenomenal successes.
In the Autumn Term, we created a Pumpkin Museum.
Children were encouraged to buy a pumpkin from any local supermarket and, under adult supervision at home, carve the pumpkin to create spooky, scary heads.
These were then all brought into school on the last day of the half term and we set up a magnificent display of pumpkin heads.
Entrants paid 50p to enter their carved pumpkin heads into the museum. This raised £152 which was shared between the Committee’s three chosen charities. You can read more about the three charities that we are supporting this year further down this page.

The last day of the Autumn term was chosen as a BREAK THE RULES DAY!
The Charity Committee thought of different ways that children could break some simple school rules. The ideas they came up with were as follows:
- not wearing school uniform
- crazy hair styles
- wearing a hat indoors all day
- wearing clothes inside out or back to front
- sneaking an unhealthy snack into your packed lunch
- wearing a temporary tattoo in class
Children could choose up to four of these rule trangressions for a donation of 50p for each one. Some children chose four and added £2 to the charity collection.
Across the school, the total collected on this day was £851. As we normally have a non-uniform day to raise money for our school fund on the last day of term, the Charity Committee decided that half should got to the chosen charities and half should go to the school fund for extra activities.
The spring term saw the Charity Committee take an old favourite of St Matthew’s and take it to another level with a World Record Fun Run.
Each class was tasked with running the course around the school grounds but they had to choose to try to set a record while running their laps.
Here are some of the records that the children could choose:
Most laps dressed as a superhero
Most laps wearing your pyjamas
Most laps dressed all in one colour
Most laps as a team of 4 wearing the same outfit
Most laps balancing a beanbag on your head
Most laps wearing a cycling helmet
Most laps balancing a ball on a racket
Most laps carrying a small soft toy
Most laps dribbling a basketball
We set up an online donation system which has proved to be extremely effective. Even before the day of the event, parents had donated more than £500.
Sadly, the day of the event was a washout. Rain for most of the day meant that the event had to be postponed. We had to make the decision to postpone the St Matthew’s Fun Run. We had hoped the weather would improve and the run could go ahead; however, this was not the case. We didn’t want to lose the fun and energetic atmosphere our fun runs have come to be known for, and we wanted to make sure all children could take part safely and enjoy the experience fully.
Even though the event was postponed, the donations from families continued to pour in, and we have a total of almost £1500. The online donations website will remain open until the re-scheduled Fun Run which will now be held on
