To celebrate World Book Day, a group of our Year 5 pupils took part in a special radio recording at Brown Books, the delightful community bookshop on High Town Road — barely two minutes’ walk from our school.
The children met Justin Dealey, one of the presenters on BBC Three Counties Radio, who came along to capture the excitement of reading in action. During the visit, our pupils spoke confidently about the book-writing project they recently completed for our Year 1 children, sharing how they created and published their very own story together.
As part of the recording, Justin read an extract from The Gruffalo, bringing one of the nation’s best-loved stories to life inside the bookshop.
The visit was part of the BBC’s World Book Day coverage and the National Year of Reading, shining a spotlight on the importance of books, storytelling and community partnerships.
Our Year 5 pupils were also treated to:
- 📖 A free World Book Day book
- ☕ Hot chocolate vouchers for their next visit to Brown Books
A perfect excuse to return very soon!
The recording from Brown Books was broadcast during the breakfast programme on BBC Three Counties Radio on Monday 2 March as part of their World Book Day programming.
