Year 5 Visit to the University of Bedfordshire
The Year 5 classes at St Matthew’s recently had an exciting opportunity to take part in an enriching experience with the University of Bedfordshire. The journey began when a group of enthusiastic Student Ambassadors from the university visited the school to introduce the world of higher education to our own young learners. Their visit sparked curiosity and excitement, laying the foundation for what would be an unforgettable trip.
Following this, Year 5 students were thrilled to visit the University of Bedfordshire campus. The purpose of this visit was to inspire our pupils to think about their future education and to raise their aspirations for continuing education after they leave primary and high school. The visit included a comprehensive tour of the university campus, giving the children a glimpse into student life. They explored the various university facilities, toured the student accommodation, and learned about the wide range of courses available. The children were fascinated by the learning opportunities and resources the university has to offer, and they were able to ask questions about what university life is really like.
In addition to the tour, the students participated in a fun, hands-on activity. They worked together to design and construct their own “Lego University,” which allowed them to use creativity and teamwork to imagine what their own ideal place of learning would look like. This practical experience not only encouraged collaboration but also gave them a deeper understanding of how a university operates and the different aspects that make up a learning community.
This week, the Student Ambassadors returned to St Matthew’s to complete this inspiring project. They presented certificates to recognise our pupils’ hard work and participation. The children are excited to showcase the experience they had during this inspiring project in the photos displayed below.
This visit was a valuable experience for our Year 5 pupils, opening their minds to the possibilities of higher education and encouraging them to dream big. We are incredibly grateful to the University of Bedfordshire and their Student Ambassadors for providing such an inspiring and educational opportunity for our pupils.

This is very pleasing to see. A hands on, memorable experience for our Year 5 pupils. Thank you to the Team at the University of Bedfordshire Luton Campus for hosting this.
