On Thursday 5th March 2026, World Book Day was celebrated in style across St Matthew’s with a wonderful range of book-themed activities taking place throughout the school.
Children spent the day sharing stories, enjoying reading activities and celebrating their love of books in lots of creative ways. One of the highlights was seeing classroom and office doors transformed into giant book covers, with each class showing off their imagination and favourite stories through colourful and inventive displays.
This year’s celebrations also included a very special visit from Banji Alexander. As well as being an author, Banji is also a teacher at an inner-city South London school and is passionate about inspiring children through reading, writing and creativity.
Many children may also have recognised Banji from his appearance on Britain’s Got Talent in May 2023, when he appeared alongside children from his class.
During his visit to St Matthew’s, Banji spent time in classrooms meeting pupils, sharing his experiences and encouraging children to enjoy reading and storytelling.
A group of our children also had the exciting opportunity to interview Banji during his visit. We have turned the recording into a special podcast for you to listen to here.
