Cycle to Santa

CYCLE TO SANTA CHALLENGE UPDATE

At the end of our two-week challenge to send our virtual cyclist to meet Santa Claus at his home in Lapland, we recorded enough active trips to school to complete a journey of 4456 miles. This meant that our cyclist reached Lapland, met Santa and then was able to take the scenic route home, visiting half a dozen places of interest in Finland, Sweden and Norway on the way.

WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO WALKED, CYCLED OR SCOOTED TO SCHOOL DURING THE PAST TWO WEEKS.

As part of our mission to increase the number of children who travel to school each day by either walking, scooting or cycling, we have signed up to the Luton Cycle to Santa Challenge.

Between Monday 30th November and Friday 11th December the children and staff will be recording every active school journey they complete, each trip gets us one mile closer to our Lapland destination, 2,050 miles away!

Do your bit to help us travel from St Matthew’s all the way to Lapland in just ten days by either:

● Walking to school
● Scooting to school
● Riding your bike to school
● Park & Stride (Driving and parking the car 5-10 minutes away and walking the rest of the journey.

One lucky child from St Matthew’s who actively travels every day during the two weeks will WIN a brand new SCOOTER. The winner will be announced on Friday 11th December.

On the penultimate day of the challenge (Thursday 10th December), we will be taking part in the National School Games Santa Dash. Throughout the day children from Foundation Stage to Year 2 will have a fifteen-minute time slot in school where they will complete a festive themed fun run. and children from Years 3-6 will have a fifteen-minute time slot at People’s Park for their fun run.

On this day children can come to school in their PE kit and feel free to wear a festive hat, but don’t forget your trainers!
