After much discussion within our school community and in full consultation with school governors, we have made the difficult decision to delay the start of the term and the opening of the school for most children. St Matthew’s Primary School will NOT be re-opening on Tuesday 5th January. We will remain closed until at least Monday 18th January 2021.
Following the Prime Minister’s address on Monday 4th January 2021, the information here has been superseded by national events. All schools nationally are now closed to all pupils except children of key workers and vulnerable pupils until at least the February half term holiday. Our Remote Learning Policy will operate from Tuesday 5th January 2021 for all pupils remaining at home.
We can confirm that from Wednesday 6th January 2021, until at least Monday 18th January 2021, St Matthew’s Primary School will only be open to children classed as vulnerable, or the children of critical workers. The school will be closed for all other children.
This decision is based on the information available regarding the increase in COVID-19 cases and the rapid transmission of the new variant of COVID-19, in addition to challenges with staff availability.
The health and safety of our St Matthew’s staff, children, families and community is paramount to us and in delaying the re-opening we are acting in good faith on the basis of the best information and advice currently available.
We would like to offer our apologies for the disruption this will cause to families and any upset to children. However, we believe that this is the right thing to do with the late availability of the evidence and the information that we have. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.
Remote learning will be provided for all year groups via Google Classroom. More information will be shared on Monday 4th January. Online learning will be available from Tuesday 5th January. A limited number of paper work packs will be available for collection from the front office from Wednesday 6th January. Please email email@example.com to arrange a time to collect.
Due to staff availability there will be a limited number of places for vulnerable children and the children of critical workers and there are clear criteria for allocating these places.
If you believe your child/children are in one of these categories and a place is required please complete the ParentMail form that will be sent later today. Places need to be requested by 1pm on Monday 4th January 2021. It will not be possible to accept any requests after this time.
We will be sending out more information on Monday 4th January regarding home learning and expectations.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation during these challenging times.
Please take care and stay safe.
