Eco Team Supports Road Safety

Since being back in September the way the children enter school each day has had to change. The new system has been working very well, but it has highlighted the high volume of road traffic we have outside of the school gates on a daily basis.

We all want to know that our children are safe at school each day and that starts with how they get here.

Over the last few years the PE Team and now the Eco Team are working to lower the number of vehicles on the roads and increase the number of families walking, cycling and scooting to school each day. Luton Borough Council have kindly provided us with a walking map to St Matthew’s. As you can see below the map highlights those streets that are within either a 5 or 10 minute walk from school.

Some days you may spend more than 10 minutes trying to find a space to park your car, and we hope that more of you will consider leaving your car at home, even if it’s just for one day a week.

We hope you enjoy the short video our Eco Team has put together highlighting how they feel we can all help, as a school and a community, to reduce our carbon footprint and increase the level of safety for children and families around St Matthew’s.

We’d love to hear what you think, so why not add a comment here?
