World Book Day

This year, the children and staff at St Matthew’s celebrated World Book Day in style!

On Thursday 7th March 2019, each year group chose a book to base their activities on to engage the children in books and to try a range of activities that link to their chosen text.

Here are the books that each year group chose:

Year R – Where’s my Teddy? by Jez Alborough

Year 1 – Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson

Year 2 – Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne, The Greedy Zebra by Mwenye Hadithi and The Enormous Elephant by Mwenye Hadithi

Year 3 – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis

Year 4 – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

Year 5 – Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy

Year 6 – Kunk-Fu Kylie (From The World’s Worst Children) by David Walliams

The children and staff participated in a range of activities including making potions, sky ships, creating their own Kung-Fu headbands, enjoying Turkish Delight in the frozen world of Narnia, as well as a pizza picnic with teddy bears! For a closer look into what each year group got up to, check out their blogs here.

Don’t forget to take your child to a local book shop to use their £1 World Book Day token to purchase one of the books specially written for this year’s World Book Day or to receive £1 off any other book! It really does make a difference.

Reading is dreaming with your eyes open!
