Table Tennis Zone Finals

On Saturday 19th January, our Girls Table Tennis team travelled with Mr Chaplen and Mr Horton up the country to Grantham in Lincolnshire for the Regional Zone Finals.

In the first round against St. Peters Primary School from Leicestershire, the girls narrowly lost 5 games to 3 in a closely fought match. The girls played very well and learnt a lot ahead of their next round match.

In the second round the girls secured their first win of the tournament with a 6-2 victory over Isaac Newton Primary School from Lincolnshire.

Heading into the last game the girls knew that a win would secure them second place in the tournament and a ticket into the Regional Finals in Blackburn.

The girls enjoyed their table tennis and played well, the hard work paid off and they won the fixture 5 games to 3 against Morland Primary School from Suffolk and booked their place in the Regional Finals next month.

Well done to all four girls for their hard work and determination to continue to improve their skills and understanding of the game whilst enjoying the sport.

Our girls have now become only the  second team from St Matthew’s, and the first girls team in recent history, to progress past the regional rounds of an inter-school competition.

Good luck in the next round!!!
