We are pleased to announce that we have our first WORD MILLIONAIRE of the 2018-19 school year.
Accelerated Reading is fully under way throughout Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 and all the pupils are enthusiastic about reading and keen to demonstrate their comprehension in the reading quizzes that go with every book.
Every time a pupil passes a quiz, the number of words in the corresponding book is added to their word count. Last year we had 40 children in Years 4, 5 and 6 who reached the milestone of ONE MILLION WORDS, twelve children who passed the TWO MILLION WORDS mark, and one girl in Year 6 who read more than THREE MILLION WORDS.
Now we have our first pupil to pass ONE MILLION WORDS this year.
Mariyah from Maple Class in Year 5 has been hard at work, reading her way through the entire Harry Potter series and successfully completing reading comprehension quizzes to boost her word count in the Accelerated Reading programme.
Mariyah received a certificate and a £25 gift voucher in the Trees family awards assembly on Friday. We’ll have to ask Mariyah after the half term break what she has chosen to buy with her prize.
Everyone who reaches the million word milestone during the year will receive a certificate in our awards assemblies.
