On Friday 1st October, as a school we will be running the Mini London Marathon. The London Marathon is an incredible event that raises millions of pounds for hundreds of charities each year, and this year we have the chance to be a part of it!
The aim of the day is for us to cover an average of 2.6 miles per child across the school (representing the 26.2 miles of a full marathon).
We have designed a running route around the school that will allow every child in every class to cover as many laps of the route during their time slot as they like. Every child’s laps will count towards the class target, whether it’s 4 laps or 15, every lap will get us closer to the collective goal.
We estimate that as a school we will complete 26,800 laps of the school during the event, totaling 1800 miles!!!
The children and staff will take part in our Mini Marathon as a way to be involved in this incredible event whilst raising funds for Clic Sargent and Molly Olly’s Wishes supporting the projects and people they work with both nationally and within our own St Matthew’s community.
On the day, children can come to school in their PE kit or other sports clothes. We are asking each child to bring in a small donation (suggested donation £1) towards our fundraising challenge.
In order to keep the classes segregated as much as possible, each class will have their own start and finish location on the route as well as an individual time slot.
If you have any questions, please call the school office. You can also find out more about the Mini London Marathon here. We look forward to seeing everyone dressed in their sports gear ready to go on Friday 1st October!
